Information from the south is limited, but encouraging
The active counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region is either about to begin or is already underway. This was the conclusion reached by the experts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing information about a number of newly liberated settlements in the Kherson region. They wrote about this in the report for July 23.
“Ukrainian troops are probably preparing or have launched a counteroffensive in the Kherson region as of July 23, but publicly available information on the progress and pace of the counteroffensive will be limited and lagging behind the events,” the ISW review said.
Further, the military experts referred to the information of Serhiy Khlan, adviser to the Kherson regional state administration, who announced on Facebook on July 23 that Ukrainian troops had liberated unspecified settlements in the Kherson region.
“Do not share important information before official publication,” Serhii Khlan wrote. – There are new liberated villages – this is confirmed by American intelligence, there are successes, advancement. But you need to keep quiet. Especially with the situation in Visokopil – we do not comment”.

According to ISW, similar information was reported a day earlier by Foreign Policy's national security correspondent, Jack Deutch, citing an unidentified high-ranking US defense official. He said that Ukrainian forces recaptured unspecified “parts of Russian-occupied villages” along the front line in the Kherson region during the last week.
ISW noted that the territory between the front line and Kherson is rural and there are small settlements , which can come under the control of the Armed Forces or the Russians without notification.
