The bilateral founding act is probably out of date.
Future strategy for NATO's relations with Russia will be approved at the alliance's summit in Madrid in June, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told a news conference in Berlin.
, Blinken said that now the alliance is developing a different concept of cooperation with Russia.
“Many of these issues will be fully discussed and discussed in detail at the NATO summit in Madrid in June. And much of the work we have done today has been to promote that summit and the work that leaders will complete, including the Strategic Concept. So I don't want to go into any detail about that; everything comes together as we speak. There have been very positive and significant contributions to this development process over the last few days, and I would say that we have discussed this very well, ”he added.
Blinken reminded that NATO and the Strategic Concept are based on the concepts of defense and deterrence, including protection against any aggression by Russia.
“I can say with confidence that this will be fully reflected in Strategic concept. Also, allow me to leave the summit to the leaders to describe in more detail how the Alliance sees its relations with Russia. I think this will be something that will be fully announced at the summit in Madrid, “said the US Secretary of State.
He noted that despite Russia's protests, Sweden and Finland are likely to become full members of the alliance soon.
