More than 40 countries supported Ukraine's lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice

In a joint statement, the countries called on Russia to immediately end the war against Ukraine.

More than 40 countries of the world, in particular, Great Britain , Germany, France, Italy, the USA, Japan, Australia, as well as the authorities of the European Union, supported Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia in the UN International Court of Justice. This is evidenced by a joint statement published on the website of the European Commission.

“We declare our support for Ukraine's application to file a case against the Russian Federation at the International Court of Justice in accordance with the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which aims to establish that Russia has no legal grounds for military action in Ukraine on based on unfounded accusations of genocide,” the statement said.

The countries once again called on Russia to immediately stop the war against Ukraine, as required by the court ruling of March 16, 2022. The countries also emphasized the importance of this trial.

The joint statement states: if Russia does not comply with the March 16 court decision, it will be considered another violation of international law.

“We emphasize once again that Russia must be held accountable for its actions. In this regard, we believe that Russia's violation of international law entails its international responsibility, and the damage suffered by Ukraine as a result of Russia's violations of international law requires full and urgent compensation from the Russian Federation,” the statement reads.

The countries called on the international community to explore all possibilities for providing assistance to Ukraine in considering the claim at the UN International Court of Justice.
