Macron called on Putin to start peace talks with Ukraine

President of France Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, September 11 , in a telephone conversation with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, condemned the continuation of Russian military operations in Ukraine and reminded of his demand for their termination as soon as possible, the beginning of negotiations and the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. This was reported by the press service of the Elysee Palace.

“A detailed and frank exchange of views was held regarding the situation in Ukraine with an emphasis on the issue of ensuring the safety of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP),” the message reads.

Macron recalled that the Russian occupation caused the fact that today the integrity of the Zaporizhzhia power plant is under threat. He asked that Russian forces withdraw their heavy and light weapons and that IAEA recommendations be followed to ensure the safety of the facility.

He said he would continue negotiations with Zelenskyi and the IAEA director general so that an agreement could be reached that guarantees the safety of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Macron also reminded of the requirement to fulfill the agreements reached with Ukraine and Turkey regarding the transportation of grain.
