Lukashenko establishes operational command of troops on border with Ukraine

The self-proclaimed ruler of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has ordered military units to be sent to the border with Ukraine.

Lukashenko ordered the immediate establishment of an operational command of the country's armed forces on the border with Ukraine. This was reported by DW with reference to the state news agency BelTA.

He also ordered to send new army units to the Ukrainian border so that the Belarusian military could “gain experience”.

In turn, the deputy Oleksiy Gromov, Chief of the Main Operations Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that in Belarus Iskander tactical cruise missile launchers had been “transferred” to the Luninets district of the Brest region. “It is possible that they will be involved in the destruction of military facilities and infrastructure in the western region of our country,” Gromov said.

Meanwhile, military exercises began in Belarus on Thursday near the Polish-Ukrainian border. The chairman of the Brest executive committee, Oleksandr Rohachuk, called them “another stage in testing the response forces” and said that the maneuvers would work out “the actions of airborne units in urban conditions to overcome the water barrier.” Rohachuk also said that the units will continue training at the Brest landfill, which is located 40 km from the Ukrainian border and about 30 km from the Polish border.
