Литва первой из стран Евросоюза полностью отказалась от импорта российского газа

Lithuania was the first European Union country to completely stop importing gas from Russia. Since the beginning of April 2022, the Lithuanian gas transmission system has not imported gas from Russia. This was reported in the LRT.

According to the operator Amber Grid, as of April 2, imports of Russian gas to Lithuania from the interconnector with Belarus were zero. All of Lithuania's gas needs are met through imports through the LNG terminal in Klaipeda. According to calculations, this should be enough in the future. If necessary, gas can also be pumped from Latvia, and from May 1 – through an interconnector with Poland.

“We are the first EU country to receive gas from Gazprom, which has become independent of gas supplies from Russia,” said Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis.

According to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, if Lithuania was able to stop importing gas from Russia, then the whole of Europe will be able to decide on this step.

“Starting this month, there will be no more Russian gas in Lithuania. Many years ago, my country made decisions that now allow us to sever energy ties with the aggressor without pain. If we can, the rest of Europe can too,” Nauseda said.

Earlier it was reported that the European Commission does not expect to completely replace Russian gas with American, but will gradually increase gas imports from the United States.
