Former prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia ( ICTY ), Carla del Ponte, has called on the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin. She said this in an interview with Le Temps, reports The Guardian.

Del Ponte stressed that the issuance of an arrest warrant for Putin is an important signal that investigative actions have been carried out. However, according to her, such actions do not necessarily mean that the head of the Kremlin will be taken into custody.

“This is the only tool that exists and allows to arrest the perpetrator of a war crime and bring him to the ISS. If he (Putin – ed.) Stays in Russia, it will never be. But he will not be able to leave his country, and it would be a strong signal that many states are against it, “del Ponte said.
