According to the president, after the Russian war against Ukraine, neither smoldering nor frozen conflict should remain.
President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that only Russia's loss of everything captured and responsibility for aggression will be safeguards against new wars. He stated this in an evening address in the context of the events in Georgia in 2008.
“These days, the Russian war against Georgia in 2008 is being remembered. Many talks about the prerequisites of that war, about its consequences. About how the refusal to provide Ukraine and Georgia with an Action Plan on NATO membership increased the audacity of the Russian leadership.
But still, the war at that time has not yet become history, has not completely receded into the past. Therefore, it is necessary to talk not so much about what happened, but about what can be done,” said Zelensky.
In the president's opinion, the challenges of that time are still relevant now. And not only because the threat of further Russian aggression in this part of the Caucasus still exists, even though it is still frozen.
“Only now has the world begun to realize the need for real, effective tools to prevent such aggressions and to bring any aggressors to justice,” he emphasized, noting that the wars of 2008, 2014, and 2022 have a different scale and character, but are essentially the same. And the main thing that can be asserted with certainty is that regional and global security mechanisms did not work.
At the same time, Zelensky is certain that there should not be any freezing of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Ukraine must return everything that Russia temporarily seized, and the aggressor state must be punished for the crime of aggression. And this is important not only for justice. Only the obvious loss of the aggressor, the loss of everything captured by him and his international legal responsibility for aggression are safeguards against any war,” he emphasized and added that Ukrainian diplomats, the President's Office, government officials and all those involved in organization of global, political, economic and legal responses to Russian aggression.
