The State Duma of the Russian Federation has passed a law that establishes criminal liability for the spread of so-called “fakes” about the activities of Russian government agencies abroad, reports Meduza . In this case, a punishment similar to that provided for the distribution of “fakes” about the Russian army was prepared for the Russians.

It is stated that “public dissemination under the guise of credible reports of knowingly false information containing data on the exercise of state powers outside the territory of the Russian Federation in order to protect the interests of Russia and its citizens, maintain international peace and security” will be punishable by a fine or imprisonment. up to 3 years.

The same acts committed with the use of official position, either by a group of persons, or “with the artificial creation of evidence of accusation” or “out of selfish motives”, or “on the grounds of political, ideological, racial, national or religious hatred or enmity”, will be punished or a colony from 5 to 10 years.

In case of severe consequences, the punishment will be from 10 to 15 years.
