“For two-and-a-half years we had a government of tacticians… That has to end. We have to become a government of strategists, sober in our analysis, not one chasing the next headline,” Schepps said.

Earlier, four more politicians confirmed their readiness to start the fight – in particular, ex-Minister of Finance of Great Britain Rishi Sunak. The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons, Tom Tugendhat, the Attorney General of England and Wales, Sue-Ellen Braverman, and the member of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, Kemi Beidnock, also announced their intention to nominate candidates.

Earlier it became known that the most likely successor Boris Johnson – Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has decided to withdraw from the race. “It was a difficult choice, but I am focused on my current job and ensuring the security of this great country,” Wallace wrote on Twitter. >Boris Johnson announced his resignation. Johnson said he was sorry to leave his position, which he considers “the best job in the world.” However, there are no irreplaceable people in politics, he said. At the same time, Johnson promised that he would continue to support Ukraine, which is defending itself against Russia's full-scale armed invasion.

Johnson announced that he was stepping down as head of the ruling Conservative Party. At the same time, he said that he will continue to perform the duties of the prime minister until the election of a new head of government, which will take place in October.
