Gas prices in Europe are rising due to fears of ruble settlements

In the first minutes of today's trading, on April 1, the exchange price of gas in Europe soared by more than 5% – a thousand cubic meters rose to almost $ 1550. This is evidenced by the results of the auction.

The price is rising against the background of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the transfer from April 1 of payments for gas supplies in rubles.

According to the decree, Western countries will have to open ruble accounts in Russian banks to pay for gas. Otherwise, gas supply contracts will be suspended.

Recall formerly the G7 and The European Union has stated that it will not pay for Russian gas in rubles, as it violates existing contracts. In turn, the Kremlin, commenting on the possible refusal of the EU to pay for gas supplies in rubles, said: “No payment – no gas.”

In turn, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko said that Ukraine will also not agree to pay for the transit of Russian gas in rubles.
