President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on improving bilateral relations and confirmed Ankara's readiness to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine, Erdogan's office reported on Friday.
According to the Turkish Communications Authority, during the teleconference there was also discussed recent developments in Ukraine.
NATO member Turkey has close relations with both Ukraine and Russia and has sought to balance relations during the war, rejecting Western sanctions against Moscow, criticizing the Russian invasion and supplying Kiev with combat drones.
Ankara's relationship with Russia is complicated: the two countries cooperate closely on energy supplies, but have differences over Syria, Libya and Azerbaijan.
