The meeting between Herman Galushchenko and Rafael Grossi took place on the territory of the South Ukrainian NPP.
Due to the ongoing Russian aggression and the seizure of the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plants by the Russian military, the situation around Ukraine's nuclear facilities is of particular concern to the IAEA. The head of the Ministry of Energy Herman Galushchenko stated that his talks with the director general of this agency on the territory of the South Ukrainian NPP could become a basis for further effective cooperation. On his Facebook page, he described the outcome of the meeting with Rafael Grossi as “restrained optimism”.
Galushchenko noted that in the future Ukraine, together with the world community, must secure all four Ukrainian nuclear power plants, spent nuclear fuel storage facilities, and the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone from a potential attack.

“The aftertaste of today's meeting is restrained optimism. I am confident that our talks today at the site of the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant will be a solid foundation for further effective cooperation between Ukraine and the IAEA,” Galushchenko said.
It will be recalled that the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Ukraine on March 29. The day before, he announced the consideration of the possibility of providing urgent assistance to Ukraine in the protection of its nuclear facilities. Grossi said he did not rule out the possibility of a direct presence of inspectors of the institution headed by him at Ukrainian nuclear power plants during the war. Meanwhile , the Russian military and Rosatom's management remain at Ukraine's nuclear power plants.
