Early parliamentary elections began in Italy

According to pre-election polls, right-wing parties are in the lead.

Today, September 25, Italy started early parliamentary elections. Elections will be held in both chambers of the parliament – the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. According to polls, the center-right coalition is in the lead. If she wins, Italy may get a right-wing government for the first time since the end of World War II, DW reports. 23.00. The results of the first exit polls will also be published at this time.

It is reported that the right-wing party “Brothers of Italy” led by George Maloney has the most support at 25 percent. In addition, the right-wing coalition also includes the parties “League of the North” led by Matteo Salvini and “Forward Italy” led by Silvio Berlusconi.

According to the polls, the second most popular place went to the left-wing “Democratic Party” – 21.2 percent, headed by Enrico Letta. Analysts believe that the democrats in Italy are at a disadvantage in the elections, because they have not been able to create a single union, as the right-wing forces have done.

In case of victory of the right-wing coalition, the leader of the party that receives the largest number of votes can apply for the post of prime minister of Italy. Currently, George Maloney is considered the main contender. If she wins, she will become the first woman in the history of Italy to hold the post of prime minister.

At the same time, as analysts note, the opinions of representatives of the right-wing coalition in Italy regarding the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine differ. In particular, Salvini and Berlusconi support the easing of sanctions against Moscow. However, Meloni has already declared support for the supply of weapons to Ukraine, in her opinion, Italy should not deviate from the decisions of allies and the international community. And leading members of the Brothers of Italy party recently said their government would be even tougher on Russian aggression than Mario Draghi's.
