Davos 2022: Green Transition and digitalisation will define the labor market of the future

Jobs of the future may appear in several sectors of the developing global economy. During the World Economic Forum in Davos , speakers discussed how targeted investment and policies can create such jobs and support workers in transition.

In particular, according to the Minister of Innovation , science, industry and economic development of Canada Francois-Philippe Champagne, the coronavirus pandemic and climate change have become powerful challenges for humanity. That is why, in his opinion, the future of the labor market will be determined by technology, digitalization and the “green transition”.

“New technologies are the engine of development. Science must provide movement, “said Champagne.

He also said it was important to improve workers' skills.

According to Bangladesh Education Minister Deep Moni, in order to adapt to the future labor market it is necessary not only to improve skills but also to adapt education system.

Fortunately, according to Champagne, current technology can greatly simplify the education process, as technology opens up opportunities for distance education.

“It used to be that in order to get an education, you had to be tied to a specific place, but now education can come to you,” he said. believes that workers need to be given more freedom and flexibility so that they can express their ideas more freely. According to him, many people suffer from depression, which negatively affects productivity. He noted that part of the cause of depression is “bureaucracy” and unfavorable working conditions.

Champagne added that the role and importance of the work they do is important to young people.

“Young people want work that has meaning that changes the world. At work, you help society and society, and when you come home, you are proud of what you do, “he said.

At the same time, the speakers pointed out the importance of the social sphere of the labor market and gender equality.
