Brazil has decided whether it will support sanctions against Russia

Bolsonaro wants to preserve the export of Russian fertilizers, although European sanctions do not provide for such restrictions.

President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro stated that his country will not join anti-Russian sanctions for aggression against Ukraine, writes Bloomberg.

Bolsonaru explained this decision by the dependence of the Brazilian economy on the export of Russian fertilizers.

“We will not support these economic sanctions, we will support the balance. If we didn't maintain the balance, do you think we would have been able to get the fertilizers that Brazil so desperately needs?”, he said.

Brazil is not the only country that fears a retaliatory suspension of fertilizer exports from Russia. on sanctions. At the same time, Brussels remains committed to food security, so the new package of sanctions does not include restrictions on trade between the Russian Federation and third countries in agricultural products and fertilizers.

“None of the measures taken in view of Russia's actions, which destabilize the situation in Ukraine, are in any way aimed at trade in agricultural and food products, in particular wheat and fertilizers, between third countries and Russia,” the EU Council said in a statement.
