We are talking about the talks that took place on the night of March 3-4, 2022.
Bellingcat reporters reported that three members of the delegation who participated in the talks between Ukraine and Russia experienced symptoms of chemical weapons poisoning. One of them was allegedly the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. Bellingcat writes about this on Twitter.
Abramovich and another Russian businessman took part in the talks with MP Rustem Umerov.
“Later that night, three members of the negotiating team retired to an apartment in Kiev and experienced the first symptoms, including inflammation of the eyes and skin and a sharp pain in the eyes. The symptoms did not subside until morning,” investigators said.
According to Bellingcat, the next day a group of negotiators left Kyiv for Lviv on their way to Poland and then to Istanbul to continue informal talks with Russia. Bellingcat investigators asked for help in conducting an examination of chemical weapons specialists.
“Based on remote and on-site examinations, experts concluded that the symptoms were most likely the result of poisoning by unidentified chemical weapons. An alternative less likely hypothesis was the use of microwave radiation. Symptoms gradually subsided over the next week,” investigators said.
They also clarified that all three delegates experiencing symptoms consumed only chocolate and water a few hours before the onset of symptoms. A fourth team member, who also used them, had no symptoms.
Bellingcat is convinced that the poisoning was intentional.
