Armenia declares peace violation in Karabakh, Azerbaijan denies

Armenian Foreign Ministry calls on Russia not to withdraw troops from the region.

Армения заявила о нарушении мира в Карабахе, Азербайджан отрицает

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia announced the resumption of armed actions by Azerbaijan in Nagorno Karabakh , taking advantage of the withdrawal of Russian troops from the region. However, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan denies the aggravation of the situation.

According to the Armenian bureau of Radio Svoboda, citing a statement by the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the Azerbaijani armed forces violated the line of contact in the direction of the village of Parukh in the Askeran district the day before. It later became known that the village was under the control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, but the Azerbaijani side did not seem to have returned to its original position.

“Azerbaijan's aggressive actions once again show that official Baku continues to grossly violate the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, according to which the hostilities were stopped,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

In turn, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan refuted the statements of the Armenian side about the alleged aggravation of the situation in the Karabakh region, and said that the Armenian side is artificially inflating the situation.

“The goal is to deliberately create an atmosphere that can cause hysteria, confuse the public and mislead it. There is no reason to worry and panic, “Interfax-Azerbaijan quoted agencies as saying.

The second war in Karabakh ended on November 10, 2020 with the signing of an agreement between Baku and Yerevan with the mediation of the Kremlin. Armenia handed over four territories to Azerbaijan, and Russian troops entered the line of contact. Since then, local fighting and skirmishes have continued on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border from time to time.
