American lawmakers suggested the Pentagon hand over advanced attack drones to Ukraine

A bipartisan congressional panel believes that drones will become one of the most important types of weapons at this stage of the war.

At this stage of the war, Ukraine absolutely needs military assistance from the USA and other Western partners and, apparently, they understand this well. The evidence can be the initiative of a group of legislators of the American Congress, who appealed to the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, with a request to speed up the supply of advanced attack drones MQ-1C Gray Eagle and MQ-9A Reaper to Ukraine. The Wall Street Journal writes about it.

According to the source, a bipartisan group of 17 members of Congress believes that the aforementioned drones could become a key piece of equipment that would give Kyiv an advantage on the battlefield.

In a letter dated Sept. 21, the lawmakers told Austin it was time to complete a security review of advanced drones that Ukraine had requested “to better maintain the territory for which they fight so hard and try to give back.”

According to the initiators of the appeal, the MQ-1C Gray Eagle and MQ-9A Reaper UAVs “will ensure continuous surveillance, accurate tracking and targeting of targets at long distances, which is absolutely necessary to counter Russian missile systems.”

Previously, Joe Biden's administration was reluctant to provide advanced drones to Ukraine due to fears of an escalation with Russia, as well as concerns that the high-tech devices that transmit intelligence could fall into Russian hands if they were shot down. As for the letter addressed to Austin, the Pentagon has so far refused to comment on it.
