A case against Navalny for fraud in Russia was opened in late 2020. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation stated that the oppositionist spent 356 of the 588 million rubles transferred to various funds, including the FBK, for personal purposes.
At the same time, a case of contempt of court arose after the trial of Navalny on charges of defaming a veteran. It was opened in late May last year. These two cases were later merged into one.
