Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Serbia supports the Russian government and the “values” that the Kremlin is trying to impose on the world. Sometimes it manifests itself in a rather unusual way. On Sunday, August 28, a march was held in Belgrade against “LGBT propaganda” and in support of traditional values in Serbia. According to the press, the march for the “salvation of Serbia” was jointly organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church and the “Night Wolves” biker club. The protest was timed to the Feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Participants of the march walked through the center of Belgrade with placards that read “Protect the family” and “Keep your hands away from of our children”, with banners depicting saints, portraits of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Serbian general Dragolyub Mykhailovych (convicted of war crimes after the Second World War, but rehabilitated in Serbia).

The day before, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić personally canceled Europride, which was to be held in Belgrade from September 12 to 18, and one of the bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church said that “if he had a weapon, he would have used it against the participants of the parade.”
