32 volunteer drivers were released from captivity

The volunteers were detained for more than three months.

32 were released from captivity by the so-called “DPR volunteer drivers who were illegally held for more than three months on the territory of the former penal colony #120 in the occupied village of Olenivka, Donetsk region. This was announced on Facebook by the head of the board of “ZMINA. Center for Human Rights” Tetiana Pechonchyk.

Three of the released drivers told a press conference in Warsaw that the prisoners were tortured and starved. The “DNR” wanted to try them under Article 233 Part 5 (“Participation in a terrorist group”), which provides for imprisonment for a period of 5 to 10 years and a fine.

A campaign was launched to free the volunteers. A volunteer is not a terrorist.” According to the volunteers, there were 33 people on the list of detainees, one more volunteer – Serhii Tarasenko remains in captivity.

A group of volunteer drivers left Zaporozhye for Mariupol at the end of March and the beginning of April. They tried to take civilians out of the occupation, organized evacuation convoys, and carried humanitarian aid. There were no military personnel among them.

Earlier it was reported that nine volunteer drivers from a group of people working on the Mariupol route were detained by the Russian military and are considered missing.
