The writer reproached Europe for accusing Ukrainians of unwillingness to surrender.
Ukrainian writer and musician Serhiy Zhadan on Sunday, On October 23, he received the 2022 German Book Lovers Peace Prize.
The writer published his speech at this year's Peace Prize. Zhadan reproached Europe for the fact that, speaking of peace, it reproaches Ukrainians for not being ready to surrender.
“Speaking now about peace, in the context of this bloody, dramatic war unleashed by Russia, some do not want to notice a simple fact: there is no peace without justice. … And blaming Ukrainians' unwillingness to surrender as a sign of militarism and radicalism, some Europeans (I must emphasize – quite insignificant, but nevertheless) does an amazing thing – trying to stay in the comfort zone, it safely goes beyond the boundaries of ethics. And this is no longer a question for Ukrainians – it is a question for the world, its readiness (or not readiness) to swallow the next, total, uncontrolled Maybe the capitulation of the Ukrainians will help the Europeans to save on energy, but how will the Europeans themselves feel, realizing (and it will be impossible not to realize) that the heat of their houses was paid for by the destroyed lives and houses of people who wanted to live in a peaceful and calm country – he said.
Previously, the award went to Martin Buber . were awarded the Heinrich Heine Prize from the German city of Dusseldorf.
