Nazareth lead singer Dan McCafferty has died

The musician was 76 years old.

Scottish rock artist, songwriter, founder and Nazareth lead singer Dan McCafferty has died at the age of 76. Bassist, backing vocalist and one of the band's founding fathers, Pete Anguy, told about it.

“Dan died at 12:40 p.m. This is the saddest announcement I have ever had to make. Marian [McCafferty's wife – ed.] and the entire family have lost a wonderful, loving husband and father. I lost my best friend and the world lost one of the greatest singers ever,” he wrote on Facebook.

Causes of death the musician is not named, but in 2013 he stopped regular performances due to health problems. McCafferty suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and stomach ulcers.

The band Nazareth was founded in 1968, and McCafferty was its regular lead singer until 2013. He was also the author of some of the band's most famous hits – Broken Down Angel and Bad Bad Boy.

One of the band's most famous songs is Love Hurts, written by American songwriter Budlo Bryant and first recorded by the Everly Brothers in in the 1960s. But it was in McCafferty's performance that the song became a hit in 1974.
