Scholz said that the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine creates many problems for the rules-based world order.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz , that Beijing and Berlin should strengthen cooperation against the backdrop of a “chaotic international landscape.” Meeting of the leaders of the two countriestook place on Friday, November 4, in Beijing against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between the West and China. Tensions have been exacerbated by Xi's close relationship with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin and Beijing's refusal to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine, writes the FT.
Sholz is the first Western leader to meet Xi since the Chinese leader tightened his grip on the Communist Party. and entered an unprecedented third term in power.
In a statement released by Chinese state media, Xi said Scholz's visit would strengthen trust between Beijing and Berlin and create conditions for closer cooperation.
“As influential powers, China and Germany must work together in times of change and chaos,” Xi said.
AP reports that during the meeting with the SI, Scholz touched on the topics of Russia's war against Ukraine, global hunger, climate change, and the global economic crisis.
Sholz directly mentioned the war that provoked the wave of refugees, as well as destabilized world food and energy markets.
“We came together at a time of great tension. In particular, I want to single out Russia's war against Ukraine, which creates many problems for the rules-based world order,” the German Chancellor emphasized.
The Chinese leader is coming out of a long absence from world diplomacy. In September, he made his first foreign trip since the beginning of the pandemic to Central Asia. However, his administration has come under increasing criticism for its stance on Ukraine, repression in the Xinjiang region and Hong Kong, and military aggression against Taiwan.
Analysts believe the Chinese leader will focus on efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly with countries perceived as less US-centric, but is also expected to attend the G20 summit in Bali this month, where he may meet with US President Joe Biden.
The Scholz government promised a tougher approach to Beijing. He also faced deep divisions in Berlin over the risks of distancing himself from the world's second-largest economy.
Analyst Shi Zhiqing said the meeting between Xi and Scholz was a good start for resuming diplomatic communication.
“Even within Germany, there are different voices regarding his visit to China. But Germany is a very practical country. The volume of trade between China and Germany is large. His visit to China is a response to the voices that are heard in the EU regarding the severance of relations with China,” Shi added.

Xi is consolidating power, Xi is preparing the country for a protracted confrontation with the United States and the entire West, this is exactly what he said at the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China and the plenum of the CPC Central Committee. And also about his readiness for this conflict. Xi Jinping's China is not just a country with global ambitions. The main differences between his policy and the policy of China, to which everyone has become accustomed over the past few decades, are open claims to the role of one of the centers of power, readiness to go to conflict to protect their interests and use all means for this.
