Domestic mobile operators have extensive experience in quickly restoring equipment. But there are also technical “tricks” to restore the connection.
In connection with the mass shelling of the infrastructure of Ukraine on the morning of October 10, we remind you of the advice of the State Special Communications Service on what to do if mobile communication suddenly disappears.
So, if your mobile operator stopped workingfollow:
- Disable automatic network selection:
on Android: Settings – Mobile network (or Connection) – Operator;
on iOS : Settings – Cellular data – Network selection; - Find and select an available network: Vodafone UA, UA-KYIVSTAR or lifecell;
- If registration fails, try again or choose another network ;
- Check the possibility of an outgoing call, SMS.
Tariffing is saved according to your operator's tariff plan.
Important: Try to reconnect to your operator's network once a day. Manually or by enabling automatic network selection.
If there is no coverage at all:
There are applications installed on the phone that allow you to communicate with neighbors, even when there is no coverage.
Programs that provide this opportunity:
Bridgefy – a program for exchanging messages without connecting to the network. It works in the same way as modern messengers, but it can be used without a connection to a mobile network or a short message service (SMS).

- iOS https://apple.co/3EBZHV9
Walkie Talkie– an application that turns the phone into a walkie-talkie. The app requires a Wi-Fi or network connection, but with very compressed traffic. It can work even on an old 2G connection, if the Internet speed on the phone is very low.

Two Way: Walkie Talkie– works like a traditional walkie-talkie. You can select a channel number or location using the map and talk to anyone on the same channel. The application supports background operation with minimal battery usage.

Also, the State Special Communications Service reminds, the services of Ukrainian operators make it possible to find out when the person you called , will appear on the connection.
Domestic mobile operators haveextensive experience in quick recovery of equipment in front-line territories, during emergency situations, etc., and therefore they guarantee that communication in Ukraine will work stably under almost any conditions.
So, in particular, operators' data centers and main network subsystems are built with the necessary redundancy of network core elements, data transmission channels, Internet access, etc. That is, it is possible to maintain the functionality of the equipment even in conditions of disruption of the power supply with the help of diesel generators for a sufficient time.
If necessary, the operator can use backup equipment and backup data transmission channels to ensure network operation. In case of partial disconnection in some regions, functions may be duplicated by other regions.
Regarding fixed connection, then in extreme circumstances fixed telephone and optical Internet connections are more protected than mobile ones — because you need to physically damage the cable to interrupt them. Radio communication, on the other hand, can be jammed with special means.
Another nuance: in many cities, telephone cables, as well as optical Internet cables, are located in cable sewers underground. And they get to the houses through basements. So the risks of damage to such equipment are lower than for, for example, a mobile tower. True, even without the threat of hostilities, such equipment is sometimes stolen or damaged – both in search of copper cable and for other purposes.
On the other hand, in cities, some of fixed Internet providers runs cables to houses on the roofs (the so-called “air”: a web of cables appears on the roofs, which can be damaged. In villages, the optical communication lines of the operators often run along the suspensions of the electric poles.
< p style="text-align: justify;">But in general, the combination of fixed and mobile phone connections together with optical Internet is stable.
Regarding satellite communication, one of of Ukrainian satellite communication operators said that with the support and control of special state bodies, all necessary plans were developed for the continuity and restoration of the supply of such services. In particular, the fault tolerance of critical elements of the network has been increased, resource reserves have been formed, emergency response teams (cyberattacks, mobile phone outages) have been formed, and alternative communication channels have been established.

We remind you that in the event of martial law, according to the Law “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law”, a special mode of operation may be established for telecom networks. The decision on this is made by the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection (State Special Communications). In this case, the National Center for Operational and Technical Management of Networks will manage the networks.
