Legislation of Ukraine defines different types of military service:
– conscript military service;
– conscription during mobilization , for a special period;
– military service under the contract of privates;
– military service under the contract of sergeants and non-commissioned officers;
– military service (training) of cadets of higher military educational institutions, as well as higher educational institutions, which include military institutes, faculties/departments/divisions of the military training;
– military service under the contract of officers;
– military service on the conscription of officers;
– military service on the call of reservists in a special period.
The difference between these types of military service is the basis for starting military service , terms of its passage and grounds for dismissal.

1) military administration bodies, military units of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, manned in a special period by servicemen under contract, conscription of officers and territorial reserve;
2) voluntary formations of territorial communities, which are staffed by persons who have been selected and contracted by a territorial defense volunteer.
Such persons are not servicemen and may terminate the contract at any time.
