Voluntary membership does not exempt from military service.

What are the rights and responsibilities of a volunteer?
Members of volunteer formations of territorial communities have the right to use personal hunting weapons, small arms, other weapons and ammunition to them in the performance of territorial defense tasks in accordance with the procedure established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
In addition, members of voluntary formations of territorial communities during their participation in the training of volunteer formations, as well as their territorial defense tasks are covered by guarantees of social and legal protection provided by the Law of Ukraine “On Social and Legal Protection of Servicemen and Members of Their Families”.
Persons who are members of voluntary formations of territorial communities (who have been granted the status of a participant in hostilities) and participate directly in measures necessary to ensure the defense of Ukraine, have the right to receive an early retirement pension after men 55 and women 50 , with insurance experience of at least 25 years for men and at least 20 years for women.
Employees who perform state or public duties, the performance of which, according to the current legislation of Ukraine, may fall during working hours, are guaranteed to retain their jobs (positions) and average earnings.
At the same time, membership in a voluntary formation does not release from the obligation to serve in the military, conscription during mobilization, for a special period, military service for conscripts, conscription reservists in a special period.
During the mobilization, volunteers of the Territorial Defense, who are fit for military service due to their health and have a military accounting specialty, are called up to recruit military units of the Territorial Defense Forces and other components of the Territorial Defense Forces.
