"We need to abandon the escalation in words and actions" - Macron urged not to conflict with Putin

French President Emmanuel Macron has said he “would not say these words” to Vladimir Putin after US President Joe Biden called him a “butcher” over the war in Ukraine, Deutsche Welle reports.

Macron said he believed it was right not to allow further escalation “neither in words nor in deeds.”

“We want to stop the war that Russia has started against Ukraine, without war. This is the goal… And if we want to do that, then we need to abandon the escalation in words and actions. “We must not forget our geography and our history. We are not at war with the Russian people,” said Emmanuel Macron, who said that Europe was “no longer in the realities of the Cold War” between Moscow and Washington.

The French president added that he planned to hold another conversation with Putin, during which he wanted to agree on the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol . At the same time, he warned against the “cynicism of the Russian side” of humanitarian corridors.

“This should not be a humanitarian operation that will play into Russia's hands,” Macron said.

Note that France is about to hold presidential elections, and Emmanuel Macron has nominated his candidacy for a second term.

Earlier , Macron held a series of talks with Vladimir Putin and he assured him that he did not plan to invade Ukraine, but on February 24 began a full-scale war against Ukraine.
