UOC-MP asks Zelensky to stop “religious lawlessness”

The church is concerned about the ban on its activities and the transfer of communities to the PCU.

Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) called President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to stop “religious lawlessness” in Ukraine.Representatives of the UOC-MP expressed concern over “frequent cases of incitement to hostility and religious strife in Ukraine.” Of particular concern are the bills registered in parliament with proposals to ban the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, local government decisions to ban UOC-MP activities in their communities, and the transition of communities to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which the synod said described .

The members of the Synod state that all these facts are a consequence of the erroneous religious policy of the presidency of P.O. Poroshenko and the destructive ideology of the so-called Orthodox Church of Ukraine. In this regard, the Synod appealed to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky to intervene in this difficult situation, stop religious enmity in Ukrainian society and take necessary measures against illegal actions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, “the statement reads. The clergy, who continue to pray for the health of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Cyril, who blesses Russia's war against Ukraine, have also initiated a gathering of believers to discuss “the future of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.”/p>

“In the near future, a meeting will be convened with the participation of bishops, priests, monks and laity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to discuss the problems of church life that arose as a result of the war. At the same time, the members of the Synod stressed that the discussion on one or another issue should not lead to going beyond the canonical field and should not lead to new divisions in the Church of Christ, “the synod said in a statement.

Note that the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches have collected more than four hundred signatures in an appeal to the Primates of the Eastern Churches > on the trial of Patriarch Kirill, who supported the war against Ukraine.

The head of the UOC-MP Onufriy condemned Russia's war against Ukraine from day one, but did not dare to declare a break with Russia the Orthodox Church, which blesses the war and the destruction of the Ukrainian people as such.
