Ukraine will have access to liquefied gas terminals in Poland and Lithuania this summer

Europe is purposefully moving towards energy independence from Russia.

In the summer of 2022, Ukraine plans to gain access to liquefied gas terminals in Poland and Lithuania. This was announced by the head of the Operator of the gas transmission system of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon on Facebook.

“Today, the GIPL interconnector between Poland and Lithuania was launched, connecting the Baltic states to the European gas market. This is a significant breakthrough in energy security for the entire region. It will be much harder for Gazprom to blackmail these countries with gas. A tanker with a cargo of LNG liquefied gas for Poland will arrive at the LNG terminal in Klaipeda in the coming days. And after the end of the Poland-Slovakia interconnector this summer, Ukraine will have access to LNG terminals in Poland and the Baltic countries, “Makogon said.

Over the past month, many European countries have announced that they will give up energy from Russia in the near future in order not to depend on the aggressor state. This position is explained by gas blackmail, which Russia has already begun to apply to some EU countries.

Why does Europe not agree on a full embargo on energy exports from Russia? Why is a partial or short-term embargo a wrong and dangerous strategy? Should Ukraine itself refuse to transit Russian gas?
