“Ukraine still wastes expensive missiles on shooting down drones, but F-16s will be able to take over the main load of air defense”: Rustamzade on the situation in the Ukrainian skies

According to ZN.UA, in the near future Ukraine will receive a fairly serious flow of air defense, including these fighters.

Since its appearance in the information space of Ukraine, the military analyst Agil Rustamzadeh has always pointed to the importance of kamikaze drones, but we missed that story. As a result, on October 10, Russia, with the help of Iranian Shahed-136s, began a massive and systematic destruction of our energy infrastructure.

A month has passed. The Armed Forces took advantage of the expert's recommendation regarding the Soviet ZU-23 anti-aircraft systems, which are in Ukrainian warehouses and which can effectively shoot down drones in the absence of a closed air defense umbrella. So Rustamzade during an interview with Inna Vedernikova for ZN.UAanalyzed how the Defense Forces are currently fighting Russian threats in the sky.

“Kamikaze drones used by Russia are not only Shahed-136. Russian Lancets are also bothering you on the front line,” he said. “In the last ten days, I have seen 10-15 videos , where they destroy your guns and self-propelled artillery installations. And I regret that one drone at an altitude of about a thousand meters films how another drone strikes. This means that Ukraine has not deployed military air defense.”

Rustamzade noted that Ukraine had to prepare, realizing that any self-propelled artillery installation would be searched for and destroyed. And therefore, it should not go to the place of deployment alone, but only under the cover of an anti-aircraft machine gun or an anti-aircraft gun.

The same, according to him, applies to strikes on city infrastructure.

“I have not yet seen video footage of kamikaze drones being destroyed by anti-aircraft guns or machine guns in cities. Including your ZU-23-2s lying in warehouses,” the analyst assessed the situation. “Therefore, I believe that you all you're still wasting expensive rockets.”

The expert also commented that, according to ZN .UA, in the near future Ukraine will receive a fairly serious flow of air defense, including F-16 fighters.

“From the very beginning, I understood and said that F-16s are very necessary for Ukraine. It was possible to predict that Russia would start hitting the infrastructure. F-16 aircraft can stop the threat of kamikaze drones and cruise missiles,” he explained. “Russia already has now there is a shortage of ballistic missiles. They have almost all shot down the Iskanders, and what is left of them is falling on their heads. However, there are still up to 10-15 Daggers, which they will use to hit the most priority targets. Yes, F-16 fighters will be able to take on the main air defense load”.

If we turn to the experience of fighting the Shahed-136 of Saudi Arabia, he continued, the Saudis alternated in the air with F-15 fighters and shot them down. There are optical reconnaissance containers with which they armed their planes and calmly destroyed drones. In the same way, it was also possible to shoot down the kamikaze drones of Israel.

Furthermore, the F-16 fighter is a multifunctional platform. It can use missiles with a range of up to 250 kilometers.

“That is, you will receive not only anti-aircraft defense, but also a tool that will help you destroy the enemy's military infrastructure at a distance of 200 kilometers from the front line,” explained Rustamzadeh. are actively repairing military equipment. By destroying such factories, you will prevent the enemy from restoring forces and resources. Since you do not have such missiles yet, you have to work asymmetrically – guerillas, blowing up fuel tanks on railways In any case, F-16 – good tool but it is a dosed tool then as you need many times more.

However, I have heard news that your SU-24 bomber will soon be fitted with SCALP missiles. These are also very good missiles with a range of 250 kilometers. That is, in the long run, even without F-16 deliveries, you will get very large opportunities for strikes deep into the enemy's territory.”

As for the terms of delivery of F-16s for service, they depend on whether Ukrainian pilots have already trained in the USA.

“I received information that they were trained. On the territory of Ukraine there are span> at least, 4–5 international civilian airports where F-16s can land and take off, he said. “To take off one fighter requires up to ten specialized vehicles. And if some country NATO will provide you with part of its airfield service and equipment, then it is 2-3 weeks.

Another option is that you are given an F-16, the pilots are retrained in Germany, then you buy something… it takes a long time. But I am not aware of this whole process. Therefore, it is difficult for me to say in how much time F-16 will be on duty over Ukraine”.
