UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson excludes early elections through the resignation of ministers

Ministers called on Johnson to resign.

Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson on Wednesday rejected calls from the Labor opposition to call an early general election after more than two dozen ministers left his government.

“I really don't think anyone in this country wants politicians were now engaged in pre-election campaigning,” he told the committee of deputies. “And I think we need to continue to serve our constituents and address the issues they care about.”

When asked by a panelist if he would be prime minister tomorrow, Johnson said: “Of course.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson rejected further calls for him to resign amid a wave of government resignations, saying the decision to leave would be irresponsible in light of pressing domestic problems and the war in Ukraine.

“I'm looking at the problems this country is facing… I'm looking at the biggest war in Europe for 80 years,” Johnson told a parliamentary group. “And I can't for the life of me see how responsible it is to just avoid it.”

A new vote of confidence in Johnson will not be taken by his MPs until at least next week after the Conservative Party's rules committee , agreed to elect a new executive director.

The 1922 committee decided on Wednesday it would hold an election for its executive body on Monday before deciding whether to change the rules to give Johnson a vote of confidence, three Conservative MPs said.

As The Times reported in on Wednesday night, Home Secretary Priti Patel joined a group of ministers who said Johnson should resign. Until now, Patel has been a key ally of Johnson, who gave her one of the big government jobs in 2019 after her brief tenure as Theresa May's international development secretary ended with her resignation over unauthorized meetings with the Israeli government.

For According to the BBC, Johnson sacked senior minister Michael Gove, secretary of state for advancement, housing and communities, BBC political editor Chris Mason reported.

Although Gove's role is not one of the most senior in the cabinet, he, arguably considered the most influential figure in government, with more than a decade of experience and a track record of delivering on government assignments.
