Trump was summoned to Congress in the case of the storming of the Capitol

The investigation into the involvement of the former US president in the events that resulted in the death of five people is ongoing.

On January 6, 2021, an unprecedented event occurred in the history of the USA – after the announcement of the results of the presidential election, a group of supporters of the Republican candidate Donald Trump stormed the US Congress buildingand captured her for a while. Later, it became known about the politician's alleged involvement in these events, which triggered the corresponding investigation, which is still ongoing. Yesterday, October 13, the Committee of the US House of Representatives, which is investigating the case, voted to summon the ex-president to a congressional hearing to testify, writes The Hill.

According to the source, all nine members of the committee voted to challenge Trump. Prior to that, a lot of testimony was heard from other participants and witnesses of the events of January 6.

“Trump is the only person in the center of events on January 6. So we want to hear about everything from him. We recognize that the summons to the ex-president's hearing is a serious, even extraordinary step. That's why we want to do everything in front of the American people,” said Democratic Congressman Benny Thompson.

Immediately after the announcement of the decision, Donald Trump himself reacted to it. On the Truth Social social network page, he published an angry post in which he called the members of the committee “a laughing stock”.

“Why didn't the committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, until their last meeting? Because this committee is a complete laughingstock that only serves to further divide our country, which, by the way, is feeling very bad,” Trump said.
