Former US President Donald Trump believes that Ukraine could have avoided a Russian attack by agreeing to territorial concessions and neutral status.
“At the very least, they should have concluded an agreement. They could give Crimea. They could do something with NATO, say, okay, we're not going to join NATO, and then they'd have a country, because I think Putin wanted to reach an agreement,” he said on The Clay Trevis and podcast. The Buck Sexton Show.
With the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion, it will be more difficult to “come to an agreement”, according to Trump.
Trump belongs to the cohort of leaders who believe that the war in Ukraine could be stopped by making concessions to the president of the Russian Federation, allowing the dictator to “save face”. History knows many similar examples, but concessions to dictators have never helped stop further aggression.

For Ukraine, Trump's return to the Oval Office does not bode well. Support for Ukraine from Republicans in the USA is gradually weakening. At the same time, Trump is on the other side – he is pro-Russian, reminds philosopher and political scientist Francis Fukuyama.
