The ombudsman's office encourages children to be told about the handling of explosive devices.
In Velikaya Novoselka, Donetsk region , a boy found a warhead of a Tornado-C missile. The shell detonated and the child received non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.
“Preliminarily, since the beginning of the full-scale war in the Donetsk region alone, 18 children have been killed and another 29 injured in shell explosions. The data are inaccurate, as it is still impossible to establish the actual number of dead and injured in some settlements of the region, “the report says.
It is noted that daily explosions are heard in every corner of the region.
“Russian troops are unprincipledly shelling settlements, destroying the most valuable thing – our children,” the Ombudsman's Office said.
The agency added that many explosive devices remain on the ground now: shell fragments, special mechanisms that break over time, and children's natural curiosity exceeds fear and self-defense: they come close to explosive objects, try to disassemble them or bring them home. Such actions lead to terrible accidents.
“That is why it is so important to explain the consequences of such actions, to teach the rules of behavior in such situations. It will save their lives, ”the Ombudsman's Office said.
Police warn: when an explosive device is detected it is FORBIDDEN:
- approach the subject;
- move it or take it in hand;
- to discharge, to throw, to strike on it;
- light a fire nearby or throw an object into it;
- bring the object home, to the yard, to school.
“It is necessary to immediately notify the police, the emergency service number 101 or adults about the find! The number of the duty unit of the Donetsk region police is 050-020-98-46, ”the Ombudsman's Office added.
