The station continues to supply electricity via a backup line.
The Global Atomic Energy Agency said on Saturday, that Ukraine's Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant has been disconnected from the last remaining main transmission line and is now relying on a backup line.
“Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP) has once again lost contact with the last remaining main external power transmission line, but the facility continues to supply electricity to the network via a backup line, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported. in place today,” the agency said.
The agency reported that the fourth kilovolt (kV) transmission line failed. Three more were lost earlier during shelling.
At the same time, the station continues to supply electricity via a backup line to the Zaporizhzhya TPP. This line is also capable of providing back-up power to the ZNPP in case of need.
“One reactor is still operating and producing electricity for both cooling and other critical safety functions at the site, as well as for households, factories and other facilities,” the international agency said.
Energoatom confirmed that after Russian occupiers shelled Zaporizhzhya NPP's communication lines with the energy system of Ukraine at 7:35 p.m. power unit No. 5 of the ZNPP was disconnected from the power grid.
Currently, the 6th power unit remains in operation, which with limited capacity supplies electricity to the energy system of Ukraine through a reserve line, and also provides for Zaporizhia NPP's own needs.
