The US is not going to place nuclear weapons on the territory of Poland — State Department

The United States reacted to the recent statements of Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Recently, Poland proposed to place American nuclear weapons on its own territory, but at the moment such a proposal is not being considered by the American authorities. This was stated during a briefing in Washington by Deputy Spokesman of the US State Department Vedant Patel, Ukrinform reports.

The representative of the State Department noted that the United States does not intend to deploy nuclear weapons within the framework of the Nuclear Sharing programin countries that joined NATO after 1997. At the same time, Patel emphasized that Poland is an important partner of the US within NATO.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Poland is discussing with the US placement of nuclear weaponson its territory. Not being a nuclear country, Poland, according to Duda, is ready to participate in the NATO Nuclear Sharing program.

Nuclear Sharing is a program NATO countries on the placement and storage of the American nuclear arsenal in Europe. It provides that countries that do not have nuclear weapons can deploy them on their territory, participate in planning and training.
