Russia's defense industry depends on the supply of Western technologies.
The administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing sanctions against Russian companies that supply goods and services to the Russian army and intelligence, writes The Wall Street Journal. Suppliers of dual-use goods may also be subject to restrictions.
According to sources in the publication, new sanctions may be announced next week.
“The Russian government relies on Western and international technologies to operate its defense industry. The new sanctions are aimed at companies that are part of Russia's procurement networks for civilian and military goods, “the article reads.
Sanctions may be imposed against companies such as Serniya Engineering and Sertal. The first is probably the center of the arms procurement network for Russia's special services, and the second is a manufacturer of equipment and technology for the army.
Restrictions are also provided for four front companies, which Serniya Engineering and Sertal use to facilitate procurement. All financial transactions related to both companies may be banned.
Other companies that may be on the new sanctions list include:
- JSC “NII-Vector” – development of software and communication technologies for radar and radar reconnaissance.
- JSC “Micron” is the largest manufacturer of chips in Russia.
- T-Platforms is a development of supercomputers.
- iGrids – software development for automated control systems of Russian power grids.
“The Ministry of Finance's sanctions against these companies will expand the US export restrictions already imposed on them and ban any financial transactions with them,” the article reads.
