The sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia: the main thing from the speech of the President of the European Commission

The Russian military has been blacklisted.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presents sixth package sanctions against Russia, which the EU is due to adopt today. According to her, “the future of the European Union is written in Ukraine.” This was reported by the Russian edition of the BBC News.

“(Ukrainians) are fighting for the main ideas. For them to be the masters of their future, not a foreign leader. For international law to rule, not force. That Putin has to pay a high price for his brutal aggression, von der Leyen said. “The future of the European Union is written in Ukraine.”

  1. The EU will expand “blacklists” at the expense of Russian servicemen guilty of war crimes. “First, we include high-ranking military and other perpetrators of war crimes in Bucha and those responsible for the inhumane siege of Mariupol,” she said. “This sends an important signal to all Kremlin criminals. We know who you are. And you you will be held accountable. “
  2. The EU is disconnecting Sberbank and two other large Russian banks from SWIFT. “By doing so, we are hitting banks that are systemically important to Russia's economy and Putin's ability to cover losses. This will increase the isolation of Russia's financial sector from the global system.”
  3. Sanctions are imposed on TV channels. “We are banning access to our broadcast by three major Russian state broadcasters. They will no longer be able to distribute their content in the European Union in any form – neither by cable, nor by satellite, nor on the Internet, nor by smartphone applications. We define these channels as the mouthpiece of Putin's lies and aggressive propaganda.
  4. The EU proposes to abandon Russian oil. “Let's face it: it will not be easy. Some members of the union are heavily dependent on Russian oil. We will take care of the phasing out of Russian oil. We will increase the pressure on Russia as much as possible, minimizing the impact on our economy.”
