59 temples and 58 monuments of architecture and town-planning were destroyed or damaged.
As of March 31, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has already recorded 135 war crimes of the Russian army against the cultural heritage of Ukraine. This was announced by the head of the ICIP Alexander Tkachenko in the Telegram.
“It is difficult to publish statistics on the destruction of cultural heritage every time. But we must cover these figures so that not only Ukrainians but also the world knows about them, ”Tkachenko said.
According to him, as a result of the Russian aggression, religious buildings suffered the most – only 59 objects. These are the churches of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, Protestant houses of worship, Islamic mosques and Jewish synagogues.
A total of 58 monuments of architecture and urban planning were destroyed or damaged, of which 5 are of national importance.
25 valuable objects of historical buildings were damaged – ancient buildings of the second half of the XIX – early XX century, 10 monuments – memorial stelae or sculptures related to historical events. The occupiers also damaged 12 museums and historical and architectural reserves, 6 theaters and cinemas, 5 libraries.
According to Tkachenko, crimes were recorded in 10 regions of Ukraine and in Kiev.
54 of them committed in the Kharkiv region, 22 – in Donetsk; 16 – in Chernihiv; 10 – in Kiev; 9 – in Luhansk; 9 – in Sumy; 5 – in Kiev; 4 – in Zaporozhye; 4 – in Zhytomyr; 1 – in Dnepropetrovsk and 1 – in Kherson.
The Minister of Culture and Information Policy reminded that the destruction of cultural heritage sites is a war crime under the 1954 Hague Convention.
