Russians sell stolen steel from Asia to Africa
Russia exports $600 million worth of steel from factories and ports in Ukraine – reported the General Director of “Metinvest” Yuriy Ryzhenkov in an interview with the BBC
Metinvest owns the Azovstal plant, which became the last stronghold of the Ukrainian military and civilian population during the bombing of Mariupol.
According to Ryzhenkov, the steel is transported to Russia and sold on. Part of this steel has already been paid for by customers from Great Britain.
“During the storming of the Azovstal plant, which together with the Ilyich subsidiary plant accounts for 40% of all steel production in Ukraine, 300 employees and 200 employees' relatives were killed,” Ryzhenkov noted.
The head of the holding said that, according to open sources and the company's own informants, the steel was shipped to Russia and sold on domestic markets or to countries in Africa and Asia.
“What they are doing is actually looting. They are stealing not only our products, but also some of these products that already belong to European customers. So, in essence, they are not only stealing from us, they are also stealing from Europeans,” Ryzhenkov said.< /strong>
He noted that the company is trying to document as many cases of embezzlement as possible and is preparing to go to court in the future.
“The moment will come when the Russians will appear not only before international courts, but also before criminal courts. And we will file lawsuits in all documented cases” – summarized the head of the Holding.
Professor Marko Milanovych, an expert in international law at the University of Reading, says there are several options for continuing the case, but the prospects for success are less certain. unfortunately, it is quite common during the war, it is extremely rare to file a lawsuit against the robber state and get compensation,” he explained.
