The tape is based on the diaries of journalist Nadia Sukhorukova, who documented everything she saw around her at that time.
“Everything that is happening now should not have happened in the 21st century. I want people to understand the absurdity of the situation and feel that thousands are dying because of the malice, cruelty and hatred of the Russian occupiers. It is important for me that every crime of the Rashists is recorded, and they answer for everything,” she said.
The creators of the tape emphasize that it does not contain scary shots, it does not put pressure on the viewer. Five residents of Mariupol will tell their experiences of life during the war.
“We don't have a voice-over, production shots, or a narrative. This is a true film of peaceful townspeople in the midst of war. They tell simply and without fear what they saw, how they felt, what happened to them. Imagine, for several weeks, the systematic destruction of a city of half a million people was going on, and these people were inside it. We deliberately did not put scary shots, although we had them, because we did not want emotional pressure. The main character, Nadia, is an ordinary peaceful person who did not hate anyone, and the film reflects this intonation. Anyone can watch “Mariupol” and experience it, find out what it was like there,” said the director of the film Maksym Litvinov.
The screening “Mariupol. Unlost hope” is planned for the end of August. Negotiations with distributors are currently ongoing.
