A portrait of Elena Kurilo, a Chuguev resident injured in the shelling, was sold at a US auction for $ 100,000. The portrait was painted by an American artist born in Moscow, Eugenia Gershman, and the auction took place at the Heritage Auctions.
All proceeds from the sale of the painting will be transferred to the Ukrainian Red Cross.

Kurilo's photo was taken by photographer Wolfgang Schwan, Gershman saw it and decided to paint a portrait. “Photography spoke to me,” said the artist.
The auction house notes that Gershman's first exhibition took place in St. Petersburg when she was 14 years old. Her parents later decided to move to the United States because they “believed that artists should be able to express themselves freely and without fear.”
