The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine called on UNESCO to move the 45th session from Russian Kazan to Lviv and to exclude the Russian Federation, which is waging war in our country , from the organization. This was stated by the relevant Minister Alexander Tkachenko, Radio Liberty reports.

“A country that started a war and uses its culture as a tool of propaganda cannot be a member of UNESCO and influence the decision of the organization. After all, her actions show that she not only does not share the statutory goals of UNESCO, but is completely opposite to them. Today, Russian cultural figures are becoming mouthpieces of crushing Kremlin propaganda and using hate speech in their rhetoric. Such a state cannot be given the floor to protect culture, “Tkachenko said.

Such a declaration was adopted on March 18 at the second extraordinary meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. At that time, Russia was also called upon to abide by its obligations under the 1954 Hague Convention and to ratify the Second Protocol thereto.

Earlier, Tkachenko said that more than 70 world cultural organizations have refused to cooperate with Russia after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine . Among them are the Cannes Film Festival, La Scala and many others.
