Local authorities plan to meet gas needs through their own energy companies.
The Netherlands plans to completely abandon imports of Russian gas and coal by the end of this year. This was reported by NOS, citing the Minister of Climate and Energy of the Netherlands Rob Etten.
According to the current government's strategy, gas storage facilities should be filled as much as possible next winter at the expense of local energy companies. In order to minimize financial risks, the government is going to partially reimburse them for the purchase of gas.
Etten also said that the Netherlands will buy more liquefied natural gas next year. It is stored at the gas terminals in Rotterdam and Eemshafen. Energy savings should also help replace imports from Russia.
As for Russian coal, its import to EU countries will end on August 11. This was agreed in the fifth package of sanctions of the European Union, which was adopted in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that Gazprom could lose a third of its gas exports to Europe in 2022.
Why won't Europe agree on a full embargo on energy exports from Russia? Why is a partial or short-term embargo a wrong and dangerous strategy? Should Ukraine itself refuse to transit Russian gas? The answers to these questions are in Mikhail Gonchar's article “Europe in Russia's energy trap: how to overcome dependence?”.
