A NATO-led international force in Kosovo called KFOR will intervene if stability on the borders of Kosovo and Serbia is threatened. This was stated in the official press release of KFOR on Twitter.

It is said in particular that the general security situation in the northern municipalities of Kosovo is tense.

“The NATO-led KFOR mission is closely monitoring and ready to intervene if stability is threatened, in accordance with its mandate, which derives from UNSCR 1244 of 1999. Our NATO-led KFOR mission is fully focused on the daily fulfillment of its UN mandated tasks to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all residents of Kosovo,” the press release said.

It is also reported that the KFOR commander maintains contact with all parties involved in the security situation, including representatives of the Kosovo authorities and the Chief of the General Staff of Serbia.

NATO calls on Belgrade and Pristina to normalize the situation through dialogue and negotiations. “This is critically important for regional peace and security. There will be no real prospects for a better future in the Balkans without full respect for human rights and democratic values, the rule of law, internal reforms and good neighborly relations. Constructive dialogue is key to regional stability,” NATO emphasizes.

We remind you that in the evening in the Kosivsko-Mitrovitsa district the sounds of gunfire and sirens are heard on the border with Serbia, the Kosovo special forces have withdrawn their forces.

Serbian President Oleksandr Vučić has warned about the plans of the Kosovo authorities to invade the northern regions of Serbia, using the ban on the entry of citizens with documents issued in Serbia. Later, amid rising tensions with Kosovo, Vučić addressed the nation. In his speech, Vucic called on Albanians for peace, but warned that if the conflict escalates, “Serbia will not surrender”.
