The Ministry of Defense explained what actions are hindering the work of returning prisoners

Relatives, friends and activists are asked not to spread information about the prisoners.

Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Malyar< /strong> warned relatives and friends of those who are in captivity against spreading messages on social networks, where the photo shows a missing missing or captured Ukrainian serviceman in military uniform, with the name, surname, patronymic and military position.< /p>

Also, information about the significance of this person for society, his political views, place of service or previous work, information about the composition of the family, relatives and friends, etc. should not be made publicly available.

Such actions , according to Malyar, can harm the serviceman and complicate the exchange negotiations.

“The fact is that the specified person may indeed be in captivity, but the enemy considers him a civilian. Or a person can simply hide in the temporarily occupied territories and look for an opportunity to return. By publishing the data and photo of such a person, you give the enemy a reference point for searches,” she explained.

In addition, it encourages the enemy to be picky about this particular person, as a result of which the requirements for his exchange become inflated, and the process itself is as complicated as possible.

Malyar added that the dissemination of information on social networks about the callsigns of Ukrainian soldiers, military units and their locations, about the circumstances of servicemen being captured, etc., poses a threat not only to the prisoners themselves, but also to their comrades in arms.

Instead of appeals and searching in social networks, the representative of the Ministry of Defense advises to contact the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, which operates on the basis of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and unites more than ten state institutions and organizations.

Reception office address: Kyiv, Spaska Street 37, phone numbers +38 (095) 412 74 24; + 38 (044) 425 12 09.

This institution receives relatives of prisoners of war and missing persons and provides legal, psychological, and other available information.

“Today, the authorities, together with all involved state institutions, are doing everything possible to ensure that every Ukrainian soldier remains alive and returns home as soon as possible,” Malyar emphasized, adding that this is evidenced by the fact that since the beginning of the large-scale Russian aggression, as of today, in as part of 29 exchanges, 1,030 Ukrainian men and women who were in enemy captivity have already been returned.
