The majority of residents of EU countries support the further supply of weapons to Ukraine – survey

At the same time, the majority of respondents are in favor of supplying Kyiv with weapons on behalf of the EU, and not from their own country.

Most residents of EU countries, namely 60% , support further supply of weapons to Ukraine. This is evidenced by the Eupinions survey, DW reports.

In particular, in Germany, 61% of the population supports this position. The only country in the bloc, whose residents are mostly less active in favor of further supplies of weapons to Ukraine, is Italy. According to the survey data, 42% of the interviewed Italians approved this position. Conversely, Polish residents most actively support this position — 84% of respondents.

At the same time, according to the results of the survey, the idea of ​​supplying weapons to Ukraine on behalf of the entire EU has more support among the residents of all countries of the bloc than the sending of weapons by their own country. Depending on the EU state in which the survey was conducted, the difference in the level of approval by residents of one or another supply option was from 3 to 7 percent in favor of arms supplies on behalf of the entire bloc.

In particular, the greatest support for the further supply of weapons to Ukraine population groups aged 16-25 and 56-70 express.

At the same time, according to the survey data, the share of residents of EU countries who support the supply of weapons to Ukraine slightly decreased during the period from March to June. According to sociologists, this trend is most noticeable in France, where the decline in support is 8%.

The survey also referred to the desire to reduce the dependence of EU countries on >Russian energy carriers.According to Eupinions data, 72% of the residents of the bloc countries are in favor of the EU becoming independent of the energy resources of the Russian Federation, and in order to achieve this goal they are ready to put up with personal difficulties.

It is noted that the people of Poland most actively support this idea (80%) and Italy (76%). At the same time, in Germany, support for such a position was the lowest among all EU countries: 69%.

In addition, sociologists asked residents of EU countries about their attitude towards refugees from Ukraine. According to the survey data, the willingness of residents of the bloc countries to accept Ukrainians fleeing the war remains high.

81% of respondents support this approach. At the same time, this indicator was 5% higher in March. In France, the drop in willingness to accept Ukrainian refugees was 8%, in the Netherlands – 7%, and in Poland – 6%.

Europeans were also asked what they thought on Ukraine's accession to the EU. It is noted that 66% of survey participants said that they would like to see Ukraine as a member of the bloc. However, the level of approval of this position in the EU countries is different. For example, 84% of respondents support Ukraine's accession to the EU in Poland, and 60% in Germany and France.

71% of respondents said that the EU plays an important role in solving international issues. Also, 77% of respondents would like to see the USA among the bloc's allies.
