Russia will not be able to use part of its gold and foreign exchange reserves.
The United States yesterday imposed new sanctions on Russia over the war against Ukraine. This is stated in a statement on the website of the US Treasury. The new package of sanctions consists of several parts. But the most important thing is a ban on any transactions with gold.
First of all, 48 companies of the Russian military-industrial complex were on the sanctions list. In particular, the corporation Tactical Missile Weapons (KRTV), which produces X-31 guided air-to-surface missiles, its CEO Boris Obnosov and two dozen of its member companies. Also sanctioned were the NGO High-Precision Complexes, UVK Techmash, the Russian Helicopters Holding together with all its companies and the Kronstadt Group.
Sanctions were also imposed on 328 members of the illegitimate State Duma, who supported the recognition of the independence of the Russian-occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
In addition, the United States has imposed sanctions against the CEO of Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, Herman Gref.
However, the most important thing is the ban on gold transactions. For example, the US Treasury Department issued an explanation according to which “any gold transactions related to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation are subject to existing sanctions.”
What does this mean?
Most of Russia's gold and foreign exchange reserves are in gold. That is, US sanctions could deprive Russia of a significant part of the financial “airbag”.

It will also be recalled that today a new package of sanctions against Russia was imposed by Great Britain. In total, the Kingdom has imposed more than 1,000 restrictions on the aggressor to stop supporting Putin's “military machine.”
